How to use them
  1. Bring the two cars close together, switch off both engines and open the bonnets.
  2. Connect one red clamp to the + terminal of the flat battery, then the other red clamp to the + terminal of the charged battery.
  3. Connect one black clamp to the − terminal of the charged battery, and the other to an unpainted metal part of the broken-down car.
  4. Start the car with the charged battery first, then the other one.
  5. Once the engine is running, remove the leads in reverse order and put them away in the bag.
Why choose these jump leads

A flat battery is one of the most common breakdowns, especially when the first cold snap arrives or after a few days without driving. With jump leads in the boot, you depend on nothing more than a second car: a neighbour, a colleague or a helpful driver, and you're on your way in a few minutes instead of waiting an hour for the breakdown service.

The trouble with many cheap leads is that they're short and too thin: you have to park the cars nose to nose, and on a big engine they don't carry enough current. Here, you choose the cross-section to suit the engine, from a city car to a lorry, and the length up to 5 m. The clamps are insulated with strong springs, the PVC sheath stays flexible, and for harsh winters there's a version that copes down to −40 °C.

A useful gift for a young driver, for someone who doesn't drive much or who often goes on holiday by car. Stored in their bag, they take up very little room, and on the day you need them, they're worth their weight in gold.

Flat battery? Get going again in minutes

One winter morning you turn the key and nothing happens: lights left on, a tired battery or simply the cold. Without leads, you wait for the breakdown truck; with them, all you need is another car with a charged battery. You choose these jump leads yourself: 3, 4 or 5 m long and a cross-section from 10 to 25 mm² to suit your engine, from a city car to a lorry. Insulated red and black clamps, plus a bag to keep them in the boot.

The benefits at a glance

  • The right cross-section for your engine
10 mm² for engines up to 3.0 L, 15 mm² for most cars, 20 mm² for SUVs and vans, 25 mm² for lorries.
  • Up to 5 m long
With 4 or 5 m, there's no need to park the cars nose to nose: you can reach the battery even side by side, or with a car in between.
  • Version rated to −40 °C
The extreme-cold cable stays flexible and doesn't crack down to −40 °C, for the mountains and harsh winters (engines up to 3.0 L).
  • Insulated clamps with strong springs
Red for positive, black for negative, fully insulated for safe handling, with a firm spring that grips the terminal.
  • CCA core, PVC sheath
Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductor under a flexible PVC sheath, easy to unroll and put away.
  • Storage bag included
The leads stay coiled, clean and always in the boot, ready for the day you need them.
